BRACES

CLINICAL CASE STUDY

PATIENT 1

FIRST APPOINTMENT

Examination and Evaluation of the condition of teeth, gums and bone health. This visit is a basic requirement for all procedures. In this visit I ask the patient about their concerns and complains about their overall condition and what they are aiming for. I also discuss about the do’s and dont’s during the braces treatment, the prices and time required for the process. Once the patient is thoroughly informed about the treatment, we proceed to step two.

In this Case: The patient has a cross bite with narrow maxilla, we have to expand the upper arch so that the bite fits perfectly.

SECOND APPOINTMENT

In this visit we clean and polish the teeth and prep them for the braces that we are about to fix. These braces need to be fixed with a special composite that sets with a blue light it ensures the bracket sticks perfectly and does not break off easily. Once the bracket bonding is done, we fix the wire that goes into the slots along with ligature ties (O-Rings) which can be transparent or colourful depending on patients request, and we do have a lot of colours which are changed every month to keep things interesting and fun!

MONTHLY APPOINTMENT AND PROGRESS

As monthly appointments are scheduled, we have a strict monitoring of every case in every 3 months by taking photographs and comparing the progress so far to ensure everyone is getting the right treatment along their journey.

In this Case: The maxilla has expanded and the cross bite is solved in a few months. Cross arch elastics are also used to close the teeth even more perfectly over one another.

FINAL APPOINTMENT

Once the treatment is complete, we assess everything, not only the aesthetics, the function and form of the arch as well ensuring the patient’s bite is comfortable and will have no troubles chewing food. The moment finally comes when we remove the braces and clean and polish the teeth making them beautiful shiny and perfect. This is a very special appointment for the patient and for me as well because we are able to appreciate all the hardships, pain go away leaving behind a permanent sparkly perfect teeth which are stunning.

A retainer is also given to the patient to ensure the position the teeth remains in the same position for years and years to come.

MONTHLY APPOINTMENT AND PROGRESS

As monthly appointments are scheduled, we have a strict monitoring of every case in every 3 months by taking photographs and comparing the progress so far to ensure everyone is getting the right treatment along their journey.

In this Case: The midline diastema is completely closed by using powerchains which pulls teeth closer. In this we also had to perform a minor surgery called “frenectomy” to ensure the gap doesn’t come back ever again.
